What is it about?

The area of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) can be measured using optical coherence tomography angiography. The magnification effect at the time of fundus imaging can influence the FAZ area, as it can be over- or underestimated without correction of the effect. We examined the magnification effect on the FAZ measurement of healthy subjects and found that in the eyes with an axial length ≥26 mm, the FAZ area after correction was significantly larger than that before correction (p < 0.01).

Why is it important?

The magnification effect needs to be considered when evaluating the FAZ area.
