What is it about?

Ocular infection in PV patients is rare. The immunocompromised status in these patients with other medical conditions results in increased susceptibility to infection. We report the case of a 47-year-old man with recently diagnosed PV who presented with severe panophthalmitis caused by Aeromonas hydrophila.

Why is it important?

Aeromonas hydrophila, as an opportunistic infection, can cause fulminant rapidly progressive panophthalmitis in active PV patients who had risk factors contributing to immunocompromised status, which results in a poor visual prognosis.

Perspectives

I hope this article helps people realise how severe the infection could manifest in immunocompromised patient and that we should raise awareness in taking care of these patients.
