Why is it important?
This is the first paper to comprehensively and systematically examine all forms of therapies that could possibly alleviate pain, an important non-motor symptom, in Parkinson's disease. To be comprehensive, this paper not only included drug treatments, but also surgery, and other non-conventional treatments such as marijuana, opioids, electrical and Chinese therapies.
Perspectives
A total of 6 months of combined effort with co-authors and research supervisor led to the ultimate publication of this important compilation. Pain is definitely a neglected symptom in Parkinson's disease in terms of an adequate treatment, and we hope that this paper helps to raise awareness about this and uncover the best treatment against pain in Parkinson's disease.
