What is it about?

ABC transporters are important membrane proteins able to transport different substances. Substances produced by our one body or substances from the out side. The main ABC transporters are well studied in tumor cells but we know very little about them in normal cells as the placenta. In this paper we showed that when the placenta presents signs of inflammation 5 of these transporters change.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest that the placental transport changes in the placenta in in an inflammatory state and this changes can impact the baby.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. Also, it started several new projects to understand how specific causes of placental inflammation can impact these transporters.
