What is it about?

Anxiety and anxiety symptoms are highly prevalent in persons with dementia in nursing homes. Persons with dementia and anxiety have poorer general physical health, have more severe neuropsychiatric symptoms, and use more anxiolytics and antidepressants than persons with dementia without anxiety.

Why is it important?

It is important to identify anxiety in persons with dementia by validated dementia-specific anxiety tools. Thereafter, ensuring adequate anxiety management and preventive care actions to combat anxiety in this vulnerable population.

Perspectives

I hope this article would draw attention to anxiety and anxiety symptoms in persons with dementia living in nursing homes.
