What is it about?

Selenium or Zinc restores lipid composition and membrane fluidity thereby improving cognitive function in protein undernourished rats.

Why is it important?

Protein undernutrition decreases membrane fluidity and alters brain lipid composition presumably due to increase free radical generation. However, Se or Zn appears to be promising and beneficial antioxidants in restoring lipid dyshomeostasis associated with protein undernutrition.
