What is it about?

The definition of the clear space is the ratio of total amount of solute removal for a solute of interest to the initial blood concentration of the same solute.

Why is it important?

Although the definition is mass divided by the initial concentration, the theoretical and clinical meaning of the clear space is the body fluid volume at which the concentration for the solute of interest is completely removed of. Therefore, one can tell how much body fluid volume is solute free after the treatment.
