What is it about?

A legal and medical point of view on the acceptance of MSM as blood and plasma donors is given in this paper.

Why is it important?

legal point: MSM can accepted as blood and/or plasma donors if they had for longer times no homosexual contacts anymore. Medical Point: Until the Robort-Koch-Inst. still defines MSM as "risk group" (and they are doing this on the base of hard data), it's will be still the personal risk of the qualified person to accept those donors. Regulatory point: Plasma products are produced in a very few countires only but will be used in many countires. Until this products are licenced there, where no MSM will be accepted as donors, even the German plasmacenters have to reject MSM.

Perspectives

It's will be a very long way to get MSM as persons without risk accepted. It's not a matter of discrimination, it's will be stil for many years a matter of product safety.
