What is it about?
In a multi-centre study 70 patients were treated 24 weeks with haemodialysis, and 24 weeks with online haemodiafiltration (= combination of haemodialysis and haemofiltration). A series of blood parameters was investigated. Erythropoietin (epo) is a necessary, but expensive medication to keep haematocrit at a sufficient level.

Why is it important?
Among other benefits (concerning inflammation, oxidative stress, lipid profiles, and calcium-phosphate product) an identical haematocrit was achieved with a 17% lower epo dose.
