What is it about?

High levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) during early pregnancy in BALB/c mice induced 40% of pregnancy loss when given during two days and 100% when given during 6 days. Both treatments increased estradiol and decreased progesterone. Also it increased ovarian prostaglandin E. Besides, it increases oxidative stress. In summary, DHEA treatment during early pregnancy modulates the ovarian function and is responsible for embryonic resorption with different degrees depending on when it is administered.

Why is it important?

This is an important study about the effect of DHEA, one of the main hormones present in PCOS during early pregnancy. The murine model used in this study is useful for understanding the mechanism involved in early pregnancy loss with PCOS.

I hope this publication help to know the metabolic desorders during pregnancy with PCOS and that inpires future studies about this.
