What is it about?

This case report demonstrates effectiveness of regorafenib, oral-multikinase inhibitor for hepatocellular carcinoma. Regorafenib was administered as second-line therapy to patients who showed resistance to first-line sorafenib treatment. The patient achieved unexpected long-term regression and complete metabolic response despite discontinuation of regorafenib due to side effects. It is known that multikinase inhibitor, unlike cytotoxic chemotherapy, results in disease stabilization rather than tumor shrinkage, so the probability of achieving complete cure is low. However, our patient achieved complete regression after regorafenib discontinuation. Regorafenib is thought to be able to affect tumor regression through immunomodulatory effects such as antitumor immunity enhancement and downregulation of immunosuppressive molecules as well as antiangiogenic effects.
