What is it about?

It talks about five decadal trend in extreme weather pattern in Sri Lanka in detail. It compares the whether trends among more than 20 stations within the country.

Why is it important?

Weather extremes affect entire economy of the country. Sri Lanka being an agricultural country, majority of the population are peasant farmers who are worse hit by the unpredictable nature of the weather pattern. This paper attempted to illustrate the trends in extreme events that can be easily translated by scientist, practitioners and the policy makers in a way that is useful to the people concerned.

Perspectives

Many researchers have attempted to see the general climate trend, but not the extreme events in Sri Lanka. Therefore, this paper gives a unique information which has not been presented so far in a systematic manner.
