What is it about?

Since no Canadian national data explains resources required and care delivery for ventilator-assisted individuals that require long-term institutional care. This study aimed to provide national data in order to explain institutional aspects, patient demographics, prevalence, admission criteria, as well as types of equipment/ care elements needed for ventilated assisted individuals that institutional need long-term care.

Why is it important?

This study is important as it will identify gaps in service and care as well as provide opportunities for growth in care plans. Our findings from this study suggested that there are variable models and care practices for institutionalized care of ventilated assisted individuals in Canada. Overall, the findings of this study will bring value for those who deliver or fund healthcare for VAI's in Canada.
