Why is it important?
The fact that even the peel components of banana and plantain fruits are as nutritionally and medicinally significant as the traditionally eaten pulp. Dietary (functional food) options are derivable from banana and plantain fruit peel and the peels sub-component (boiled peel extract), as evidenced by their rich constitution of bioactive polyphenols (flavonoids, phenols), and free radical scavenging activity.
