What is it about?

Current braces are mainly static or rigid, which causes difficulty in breathing and has a movement impact resulting in increasing the likelihood of secondary neck injury. This paper develops a compliant neck brace and analyzed its performance.

Why is it important?

We find that the X-shaped compliant joint has the advantages of large rotation angle, small axis drift, and simple structure, and it can used to replace a revolute pair in 3-RRS spatial mechanism. Thus, the 3-RXS neck brace has a simple and light structure coupled with good rotation performance, and it can be used to assist the neck to achieve flexion and extension, lateral bend, and axial torsion.

Perspectives

I hope that this article could provide an way to assist patients with head drooping symptoms (HDS).
