What is it about?
The frequency, intensity and area of impact of heatwave on the North China Plain initially decreased and then increased. Similarly, the trend of population exposure under heatwave events decreased at first and then increased, and the central position of exposure initially moved southward and then returned northward. In relation to the change of population exposure under heatwave, the influence of climatic factors was found dominant, and the absolute contribution rate is over 75%. The contribution rate of the population factor changes from positive to negative; and the contribution of combined climatic population factors showed negative positive negative change.

Why is it important?
This study demonstrated a method for assessing the impact of heatwave events on population exposure, which could form a scientific basis for the development of government policy regarding adaption to climate change.
