What is it about?
Hugan Qingzhi tablet (HQT), a lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory medicinal formula, has been used to prevent and treat NAFLD. However, its mechanism of action is unknown. The aim of this study was to confirm whether HQT reversed the gut microbiota dysbiosis in NAFLD rats.

Why is it important?
Gut dysbiosis occurs in HFD-induced NAFLD rats, and the HQT decreases lipid levels and inflammation in these NAFLD rats, together with beneficial modulation of the gut microbiota.These findings indicated that the effects of the HQT on NAFLD might depend on its modulatory effect on the gut microbiota.
Perspectives
It is the first time to explain that the mechanism of Hugan Qingzhi Tablet in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is related to the regulation of intestinal flora. Hugan Qingzhi Tablet shall play a similar effect to probiotics, laying a foundation for its subsequent development and research.
