What is it about?

The paper describes that a new type of polymer brush made from ionic liquids could remove biofilms in water. E-coli and S. epidermidis were selected to form biofilms. Static pipet method was used to produce biofilms on some specimens. Crystal violet was used to stain biofilms in this experiment, besides Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy strengthened the accuracy of the experimental results.

Why is it important?

The polymer brush has very low friction coefficient and may be applied to automobiles etc. If the antifouling characteristics would be added to the mechanical function, the application fields would be broaden. At a glance, our polymer brush might be easy to form biofilms. However, biofilms could be removed very easily by water.

Perspectives

We expect the polymer brush will be applied to many industrial purposes. From automobiles, kitchen, pipe works to medical fronts.
