Why is it important?

Much research evidence documents the importance of personality characteristics in determining behavior and performance in work settings. Yet, further advances depend upon more sophisticated structures of personality, better outcome variables, better measurement of outcomes, and different validation strategies. The article provides new ways of thinking about how to evaluate personality structures and how to evaluate the usefulness of personality variables in traditional and new work settings. Using ideas presented in this article will increase the accuracy of personality theories, hypotheses, and prediction of work outcomes.
