What is it about?
Ill-structured design problems are complex and novice find it difficult to solve such problems. This paper discusses design problem-solving approach by expert and how to train novices in developing the skills and process to effectively solve the design problems which are ill-structured in nature.

Why is it important?
We have presented an intervention for training novices in both cognitive and metacognitive skills needed to solve ill-structured design problems. The results show that the proposed solution is effective in learning the targeted skills.
Perspectives
The work presented in this paper is my PhD thesis work and we have worked for almost four years to design, develop and test the intervention with learners. This paper might be useful for instructors in computing education, instructional designers and researchers.
