What is it about?

This paper aims to find out how anthropomorphism shapes the perception of phantom costs (i.e., perceived ulterior motives and hidden risks) in human-robot interaction by using different robots and a human counterpart. We also explored whether people adopt the intentional stance more with more anthropomorphic robots, by looking at their explanations of the agent's behaviour.

Why is it important?

It helps to better understand human-robot interaction. It informs how much robots should explain their actions, and suggests that designers should carefully manipulate their robots' anthropomorphic cues.
