This article reviews 184 studies of project-based learning in computing and extracts 34 course attributes across two decades of research to answer six practical questions: where it is used, what kinds of projects students build, how projects are organized, how outcomes are assessed, what benefits are reported, and what support helps students succeed.

Educators often know project-based learning is valuable but lack clear guidance on how to implement it well. This systematic review brings several experiences into a coherent document, offering evidence-based options for designing projects, organizing teams, planning assessments, and structuring support.
