What is it about?
In this work we explore the possibility of preventing free ride attackers from using communications belonging to others' Wi-Fi transmitters to perform sensing tasks in the environment between the transmitter and the attacker. To do so, we explore a technique that leverages beamforming, studying the tradeoff between level of privacy and quality of the communication, and leaving to the legitimate receiver the possibility to perform their own sensing tasks.

Why is it important?
Channel state information (CSI)-based sensing is based on clear text information sent by Wi-Fi routers. Hence, any malicious entity can perform such operations exploiting proprietary hardware as free rider. We make sensing private by obfuscating the CSI to unauthorized parties, making them unable to sense the environment (see infographics).
