What is it about?
The effects of climate change on agriculture, particularly food production, are increasingly severe, especially in low-income economies across Africa. This project proposes a soft mitigation solution to support smallholder farmers by providing quick, cost-effective access to relevant agricultural information. Specifically, the tool aids in the healthy production of indigenous vegetables by delivering timely guidance on seed production, pest control, soil health and nutrient management.

Why is it important?
Access to reliable, real-time information significantly enhances smallholder farmers' ability to respond to the challenges they face in the field. This, in turn, leads to increased crop yield, helping to reduce hunger and poverty while improving nutrition. Improved nutrition can reduce cardiovascular diseases, cancer, among others, thereby contributing to better public health outcomes. Additionally, the solution encourages youth participation and employment within the vegetable production value chain, thereby creating broader socio-economic impact.
Perspectives
To achieve wide-scale adoption and sustainable use of this innovation, it is vital to raise awareness among key stakeholders. This can be done through agricultural extension services and targeted training sessions that help farmers understand and make the most of the tool. Financial support is also crucial, not only to scale the solution’s features but also to expand its reach across regions, thereby fostering continental impact.
