What is it about?

The article presents a process and rationale for designing and making an interactive necklace that uses various sensors (heart rate, skin conductivity, sound) to leverage identity expression. The data measured by sensors can be presented on the necklace in a non-obvious, symbolic manner. It takes a new perspective on identity expression via jewellery.

Why is it important?

While wearable technology is getting more popular, its form remains mostly the same, usually taking the form of a watch or a band. Wearable technology is taking the space on the body that traditionally was reserved for jewellery. Therefore, designing wearables that share jewellery values and aesthetics might be a way to allow for more meaningful and prolonged interaction.
