What is it about?

This article is about removing noise from heart motion signals to improve detection of diseases, amongst other use cases. A new method is described, outperforming the usual state of the art. Furthermore the default pipeline with bandpass filtering is questioned. Finally, the usefulness of the approach is shown in context with the transformation of heart motion signals (SCG) into electrocardiograms (ECG).

Why is it important?

Heart diseases are the number one death reason worldwide. Any improvement in heart motion processing is a direct benefit for the fight against heart diseases.

Perspectives

Building upon results of this paper, especially investigating more sophisticated and more realistic noise models, will be another huge step towards reliable detection of heart diseases in early stages.
