What is it about?
Learn about performance of software defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) using Amazon Web Services (AWS) as global backbone to interconnect sites across different regions. SD-WAN Network is not just routers today, it consists of different Service Function Chains (SFC) like firewalls and load balancers. The most common SFC "firewall-router" is used in this paper.

Why is it important?
Public clouds offers global backbone services, which can be used in addition or even instead leased lines and private MPLS backbones. Understanding the performance of this new solution is critical for the future of this solution.
Perspectives
It was a great pleasure to write this article in excellent teamwork with Aris Leivadeas and Matthias Falkner. Ability to spin up a global network in fully automated way using Terraform scripts in 10 minutes is a very big advantage of this solution! AWS was used as an example, similar results are expected on other public clouds like Azure and Google Cloud.
