What is it about?
Communication between Intelligent Transportation Systems is an essential feature that enables such systems to exchange real-time messages. Particularly in the Internet of Vehicles paradigm, smart vehicles communicate and exchange messages that could contain instructions to an immediate stop due to an accident. This is a life-threatening situation, right? Attackers carrying jamming attacks can target connectivity and communication in such networks—enabling attackers to prevent any communication. This paper proposes and test localization methodology with various realistic scenarios to estimate and provide the jammer location using the signal emitted by the jammer.

Why is it important?
Communication between Smart Vehicles is an essential feature that enables such entities to exchange real-time messages. Particularly in the Internet of Vehicles paradigm, vehicles communicate and exchange messages that could contain time-sensitive and critical information. Attackers carrying jamming attacks can target connectivity and communication in such networks—enabling attackers to prevent any communication. This could lead to life-threatening situations, right? This paper proposes and test localization methodology with various realistic scenarios to estimate and provide the jammer location using the signal emitted by the jammer.
Perspectives
Jamming attacks targeting such real-time systems could lead to catastrophic events. Fatal accidents in a smart vehicle's network could result in innocent people losing their lives. Jammer localization in the Internet of Vehicles is essential for several reasons: 1. Safety: Jamming wireless communication systems in vehicles can disrupt critical safety-related functions such as collision avoidance, lane departure warnings, and traffic sign recognition. Identifying and neutralizing the jamming device can help restore these safety-critical functions and prevent accidents. 2. Security: Jamming can also disrupt communication between the vehicles and the infrastructure, preventing security-related messages such as intrusion detection, traffic management, and incident response from being communicated. 3. Efficiency: Jamming can cause delays, congestion, and other inefficiencies in the transportation system. Overall, jammer localization in the Internet of Vehicles is crucial for maintaining the safety, security, and efficiency of vehicular communication networks. Our findings show that it is possible to localize a jammer even when moving! In fact, our solution can localize an active jammer under four different scenarios and various network conditions with up to a 13 meters localization accuracy.
