What is it about?
Users, especially older adults, often forget to change from near-vision glasses to distant-vision glasses which may lead to fatal falls. Changing into suitable glasses is required while changing from sedentary activities (sitting, reading) to ambulatory ones (walking, running, taking stairs). To remind users in time to change glasses we designed a motion sensor-based activity transition detection system. Our system has shown efficiency in detecting the transition from sitting to standing and can serve as an excellent product to alert users in a timely manner.

Why is it important?
Falls are the biggest threat among all events to elderly people and patients and pose a serious risk to their well-being, confidence, and mortality. Visual impairments which distort depth perceptions are often identified as major reasons for falls. Users, especially older adults, often forget to change from near-vision glasses to distant-vision glasses which may lead to falls. Changing into suitable glasses is required while changing from sedentary activities (sitting, reading) to ambulatory ones (walking, running, taking stairs).
Perspectives
This is a real-world problem and we substantiated the effectiveness of our proposed technique with data collected from 23 users. We believe that this system can serve as an excellent and cost-efficient product for the rapidly growing older adult community nationally and internationally.
