What is it about?
The Norwegian Collection of Folk Music contains 750 hours of old recordings of folk music, and in particular of fiddle music. We create new tools to cut the long recordings into songs, and to describe the music content. The tools can automatically detect each note played by the musician, and tries also to follow the beat of the music. We plan to develop other methods to better understand the richness of this music.

Why is it important?
The paper presents a large range of innovative technologies to transform an old catalogue made of long tape recordings into a collection of recordings of individual tunes, with also the attempt to get a transcription of each of these tunes. The catalogue is available online, as well as the software for the automated analyses as well as for detailed and precise manual annotations.
