Why is it important?

This article is important to tourism stakeholders due to its perspective on the need to re-define the concept of domestic tourism in the light of virtual technologies that are enhancing the tourists' experiences particularly in the COVID-19 pandemic era.

Perspectives

The COVID-19 global pandemic has caused measures such as travel restrictions and unpredictable lockdowns. As the variants continue to emerge, it is clear that traveling is still affected. On the other hand, virtual technologies are revolutionizing how tourists experience travel. As more nations are forced to rely on domestic tourism, it is only timely to re-define the concept of domestic tourism that captures both physical and virtual.
