What is it about?

Child-computer interaction (CCI) research has grown steadily throughout the past two decades as the role of technology in children's lives has changed. This paper investigates the major themes of study addressed in research related to children's interactions with technology during the past two decades, as well as how these themes of study have evolved over time.

Why is it important?

Our findings offer an extensive overview of progress in research concerning children's interactions with technology throughout the past two decades. Such an overview supports reflection upon research in this field and it's development, and informs dialogue concerning the future directions of this research.

Perspectives

It is my hope that findings presented in this paper may support other researchers in grasping themes and trends in this field, and identifying fruitful opportunities for future research. I also hope that approaches adopted in this paper might inspire or inform similar efforts at mapping, or providing overviews, of other fields of research.
