What is it about?

Edge Computing includes Servers and Networks that support various Mobile and Fixed Applications. This paper describes how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can save Energy for Sustainable Edge Computing, while Optimizing user Quality of Service and Security.

Why is it important?

Edge Computing is pervasive with millions of such systems across the world, and can potentially increase the electricity consumption of Information Technology by several TWH (Tera Watt Hours) per year. The paper shows that AI can significantly reducing Edge Computing energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 20% without impairing system Quality of Service and Security.

Perspectives

Saving energy in Edge Computing reduces the operating costs of mobile operators and in customer premises servers, and reduces greenhouses gas emissions. It makes informations technology more accessible to a greater number of people and encourages sustainable development.
