What is it about?
We have carried out an audit of the Italian car insurance market through a famous comparison website, finding that drivers born in certain Italian cities and countries outside of Italy are systematically quoted higher premiums. Also gender can determine differences in quoted premiums. Moreover, riskier driver profiles obtain fewer quotes.

Why is it important?
Car ownership and insurance are important to participate in the economic and social organization of many societies. Both Italian and international regulations forbid differentiating premiums on the basis of driver nationality and gender. We have demonstrated how to use comparison websites to verify industry compliance and favor accountability.
