What is it about?

When designing technologies for children and disability it is important to understand about the perspectives and priorities of children who are a key end user. It is not always possible to involve children in design work and designed technologies can have a limited range of purposes. Using design documentaries that convey to designers children's lived experiences, we show that this tool can motivate new perspectives.

Why is it important?

This work proposes a new application for design documentaries that can generate new perspectives for design and disability. It also shows how designers and children with disabilities can communicate together in a context where adult carers/teachers have largely been involved as proxies on behalf of children.
