What is it about?
Gateways are website "portals" to shared scholarly resources, including data, software, computing services, instruments, and educational materials. The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) serves the gateway community, bringing together people, expertise, technologies, and best practices for creating and sustaining gateways.

Why is it important?
This extended abstract describes the wide array of support services and programs available from the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI), many at little or no cost. In particular, members of the community find it helpful to connect with other people who are tackling similar issues in other fields.
Perspectives
The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) is unique in that it is funded to apply knowledge about computer systems and services to the real problems of researchers and educators. SGCI is about building a community and sharing gateway expertise broadly across many disciplines, creating impact through the reach of gateways, which in turn broaden access to many others.
