What is it about?

Many instructors are using automated tools to form teams in their courses. We propose LIFT, a workflow for instructors to incorporate student preferences into this process. In this paper, we describe an experiment demonstrating the results of using LIFT.

Why is it important?

This paper shows that students are capable of configuring team formation tools; teams formed using LIFT performed no worse and were no less satisfied than teams formed using the traditional instructor-led approach. This result gives support for instructors who wish to include students more actively in the team formation process.
