What is it about?
Temperature is a fundamental constraint in electronic chips, as high temperatures can damage the chip. There are several methods to ensure that a fabricated chip does not reach such high temperatures. However, in order to implement any such method, we need to accurately estimate the expected temperature in the chip. There is a substantial body of research in this area. In this paper, we present and review all such methods that have been proposed to estimate the temperatures in electronic chips.

Why is it important?
A review of the existing methods will help new researchers in the area to familiarize themselves with all the options they have for temperature estimation and find the best technique suited for their needs. This will also help existing researchers to find better (more accurate/faster) methods for their thermal estimation needs.
Perspectives
The aim of writing this article is to help readers quickly familiarize themselves with all the state of the art techniques in thermal estimation by just having to read one paper.
