What is it about?

Inattention in online learning environments is significantly and negatively correlated with learning efficiency, and has become one of the problems of MOOC-based learning. IntelliEye is a system to detect learners’ loss of attention in real-time, and provide mechanisms to intervene attention loss with the final aim to return learners’ attention to the MOOC video being shown in a prviacy-aware manner.

Why is it important?

Inattention significantly and negatively correlated with learning efficiency. Methods to re-gain learner focus and attention needed. The study looks at three types of interventions: (i) pausing MOOC video, (ii) auditory alert, and (iii) visual alert.

Perspectives

A privacy-aware system to detect learner inattention and regain the focus on the video shown.
