What is it about?

Syntactical error recovery is an essential feature to integrate a parser into an IDE. We present a conservative extension of Parsing Expression Grammars (PEGs) that adds a syntax error recovery mechanism for PEGs. By using this mechanism we can associate a label to each error and then attach an error message and a recovery expression to each label.

Why is it important?

By extending PEGs with a proper error recovery mechanism we enable the use of PEG parsers in IDEs.

Perspectives

I expect that the ideas presented in this article help to guide the implementation of more robust PEG parsers.
