Why is it important?

Information technology is increasingly used to support healthcare for the ageing population. How it is designed in relation to users' needs and preferences is a key concern.

Perspectives

It is a myth to think that old people are uncomfortable with new technology. What matters is how it is designed in relation to what people want to do and know. Many younger people also experience problems with new technology, and in both cases this is due to inappropriate designs. Existing design approaches are not working, or are not adequately taken up.
