What is it about?

Asynchronous circuits are usually implemented using bundled-data or quasi-delay insensitive techniques. The former class (bundled-data) require the use of delay elements. The goal of the paper is to explore the design of such delay elements with small grain steps of delay and with high degree of energy efficiency.

Why is it important?

The paper advances the state of the art in the design of delay elements for a relevant class of energy-efficient circuits.

Perspectives

Asynchronous circuits can, coupled with newer technologies, change the way digital circuits are design in mainstream and/or niche applications. Keeping up with the quality of asynchronous design is thus very important when mostly synchronous solutions loose effectiveness in developing the full potential of new advanced technology nodes.
