What is it about?

We examine the graph structure formed by data that is either published as Linked Open Data or embedded in Web pages.

Why is it important?

A common approach to discover data on the public Web is the so-called "follow your nose" approach, which means that further data can be discovered by following RDF links. In this way crawlers can incrementally accumulate a knowledge base from all data that is maintained in a distributed fashion. Understanding the graph structure of the Web of Data is important to build effective crawlers and to understand the limitations of those (e.g. data that cannot be reached).
