What is it about?

We asked male and female engineering and technology students about why they chose an engineering or technology based degree, what they thought about the learning environment and their future career plans.

Why is it important?

It is important to make sure that engineering and technology education is inclusive and supportive of all students regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age etc.

Perspectives

For me this research project highlighted that the lack of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is not a question of simply getting more girls or women interested in STEM subjects and careers but is caused by the non-inclusive organisational cultures in STEM work places.
