What is it about?

Energy communities are groups of people who produce, share, and manage renewable energy together. While this idea helps promote clean energy and reduce costs, setting up and running these communities can be complicated. Our research introduces a complete ecosystem — including a mobile app — that makes it easier for people to join and manage energy communities. This system helps community members find each other, plan their energy-sharing goals, and manage operations smoothly. It also ensures that data sharing is safe and privacy-friendly. By simplifying these steps, our solution supports the growth of local renewable energy networks and empowers people to take part in the clean energy transition.

Why is it important?

The transition to renewable energy is crucial, but one of the biggest challenges is helping local communities take an active role in producing and sharing clean energy. Our work introduces a unique end-to-end ecosystem, including a mobile application, that simplifies the creation and management of energy communities. By addressing technical, operational, and social barriers, this system empowers citizens to participate more easily in local energy networks. Its focus on user-friendly tools and privacy-compliant data sharing makes it a timely and practical solution for scaling up renewable energy adoption. This approach could significantly drive the democratization of energy and support global sustainability goals.
