What is it about?
AI and video games share a long and storied history, from the ghosts in Pac-Man, to the computer chess wars, to world generation in Minecraft. Today, generative AI is lauded (and feared) as the next big thing in games. But some very real concerns about how this technology is being used - and abused - threaten to take the joy from the games we play and the lives of those who make them. This article looks at the ethics, practical challenges, and promise of generative AI in games. And, more importantly, the human spirit that makes all art worthwhile.

Perspectives
As both an artist and someone with a background in AI research, the explosion of generative AI tools has been a very personally intriguing and challenging topic to reckon with. Getting the chance to explore it in this opinion-focused piece has been illuminating and somewhat cathartic.
