What is it about?

Our study focuses on developing a new tool to help detect Covid-19 early and reduce the virus's spread. The tool, a "smart shield," uses thermal cameras and face recognition technology to identify people with symptoms like fever, which is common in Covid-19. By integrating this tool with Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology, it can automatically screen individuals without needing human interaction. This system aims to make screenings faster and more accurate, supporting global efforts to prevent and control the pandemic.

Why is it important?

Our work introduces a unique and timely solution to the critical need for early detection of Covid-19. Unlike traditional screening methods, our smart shield integrates thermal imaging and face recognition with Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology to provide automated, contactless, and real-time detection of symptoms like fever. This approach significantly reduces the risk of virus transmission during screenings and enhances the accuracy of early diagnosis. By offering a more efficient and safer screening process, our system has the potential to make a substantial difference in controlling the spread of Covid-19 and future respiratory diseases.

Perspectives

Writing this publication was particularly rewarding for me as it allowed me to explore the intersection of advanced technology and public health, two areas I am deeply passionate about. This project has been a meaningful step in addressing a global challenge, and I hope it inspires further innovation in how we use technology to protect and improve public health. I am excited about the potential impact this work could have in making healthcare more efficient and safer, especially in times of crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic. My hope is that this article not only contributes to the academic discussion but also sparks new ideas for practical applications that can make a real difference in people's lives.
