What is it about?
This paper explores the concept of hypermedia controls (e.g. links & forms as found on the WWW) and provides a formalization for them. It then looks at the generalization implied by this formalization. It then presents two technologies that implement this generalization, as well as practical UX patterns achievable with generalized hypermedia controls in both of these technologies.

Why is it important?
By establishing a formal definition and generalization of hypermedia controls, the class of UX problems that can be solved using hypermedia is greatly increased. This expands the domain in which a hypermedia-driven approach can be effective significantly, bringing the benefits of hypermedia (e.g. the REST-ful network architecture) to a larger set of applications.
