What is it about?
Software development is a social activity that involves people from different countries and cultures. Research on Global Software Engineering has limits that make its results hard for practitioners to use. This PhD project aims to build a theoretical framework that captures cultural differences in software teams, studies their impact on different aspects of software development, and describes the strategies practitioners use to manage them.

Why is it important?
The goal is to bring research results to practitioners through practical tools. A better awareness of cultural differences, and the ability to adapt to them, can help projects succeed and improve developer well-being in inclusive and culturally diverse environments.
Perspectives
This short paper presents my PhD research plan on cultural differences in software development teams. The main goal was a theoretical framework that captures how cultural differences affect software development and how practitioners manage them. The framework is described in full in our paper “Dealing With Cultural Dispersion” (ICSE-SEIS 2024).
