What is it about?
Science communication is becoming increasingly important, but it is unclear how to effectively communicate the motivation, goals and approaches of research projects to the public. We use an educational smart pen widely used by kids in Germany to let the public interactively experience the research motives and approaches of the interdisciplinary research project "Internet of Production".

Why is it important?
Our work shows that the TipToi smart pen can easily be used to quickly prototype interactive media for an audience beyond kids. We illustrate how the interactive media can be realised, what needs to be taking into account and also how to evaluate it.
Perspectives
It was a lot of fun to iteratively develop the different pages of the prototype and evaluate them in smaller and larger studies. Certainly, the chosen objective – communicating the digital transformation of production – was a bit overambitious, but the approach will work much better for more tangible topics. Also, I hope my kids will forgive me for stealing their smart pen for several weeks.
